At present this function is mainly carried out through support to the Citizens Information Services.

The Comhairle (Amendment) Bill 2004 included a provision for the establishment by Comhairle of advocacy services for people with disabilities. In this context, Comhairle commissioned Goodbody Economic Consultants to undertake a study to identify and examine the components of an Advocacy Service that would best fit the Irish situation, to set out a framework for such a service and to estimate costs. The study recommends providing a 3 stranded service.
