New Citizens Information Centre for Dungarvan

The Minister of Social and Family Affairs Mary Hanafin T. D. launched the new Dungarvan Citizens Information Centre at Scanlon's Yard, recently. She acknowledged the length of service that has been given to the public throughout the county since the centre was established in Dungarvan in 1982 paying tribute to the ethos of volunteerism and active citizenship.

Opening the event, Deputy Mayor of Dungarvan Cllr. Michael Cosgrove praised the work of Information providers at the CIC and wished the service well. Tony McQuinn CEO, Citizens Information Board reminisced about training the founder volunteers here in Dungarvan 28 years ago and was delighted to see the continued community involvement with the service.

Minister Hanafin T.D. also launched the Waterford Independent Advocacy Service for adults with an Intellectual disability, which has a remit city and countywide. This service is based in Dungarvan CIC every Monday by appointment. The new monthly Free Legal Advice service provided by local solicitors at Dungarvan CIC was also announced.

County Mayor Cllr. Nora Flynn concluded the proceedings by wishing the service well and commending it as a wonderful community resource for relevant and accurate information especially in these times of change.

The event was attended by representatives of local community groups, County & Town Council staff, Citizens Information Board personnel, the Chair & Manager of Waterford CIC, Social Welfare staff, MABS, An Post and Bord Fáilte representatives, among others.
