Tipperary CIS launches 'A Guide to Community Life in Co. Tipperary'

November 2009

'A Guide to Community Life in Co. Tipperary' is a booklet packed with useful information on various aspects of community life in the county. Liam Sheedy, Manager of the Senior Tipperary Hurling team, launched the guide at the Source Centre in the new library in Thurles, this month.

While initially the guide was intended to help newcomers to Co. Tipperary it is also a most useful resource for those who have lived in the county for sometime as it gives an overview of community organisations, cultural providers, and sport and recreational activities.

Speaking at the launch Liam Sheedy talked of his experience of growing up in a rural community and the support he and his family received. He also talked about his current experience of working with the current Senior Hurling Panel, which he described as a group of thirty five lads from many different clubs, but who now formed a new community where each person was prepared to work for each other for the common good.

The Guide was written by Antje Hogan of the Tipperary Citizens Information Service with the support of a Voluntary Steering Group including representatives of North and South Tipperary County Councils, North and South Tipperary Community and Voluntary Forums, South Tipperary Cultural Providers Group, Tipperary Libraries and community representatives.

The Guide is now available free of charge from Tipperary Libraries, Citizens Information Centres, VEC offices, and other community centres. The guide can also be downloaded at www.tippinfo.ie and www.tipperarylibraries.ie.
